29th January 2017A recent landmark trial showed 53% more patients initiated therapy for tuberculosis (TB) after a new DNA-based diagnostic tool was used to screen for the disease in more that 2261 individuals.
Experts sat the test called GeneXpert MTB/RIF will improve the battle strategy against TB by finding undiagnosed cases in communities.
The trial funded by The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) and South African Research Council (SAMRC), is geared to inform control strategies for TB-endemic countries.
